Creationist v. Science?

Let me say hello to everyone once again. I hope that everyone, or should I say anyone that did read it, enjoyed my last post, as it was great to for me to be writing once again. It was a little disappointing that no one had any comments on what I have to say, but I take it that there hasn't been a great deal of people reading my blog, yet. Perhaps that will change in the future, however if it doesn't that will be fine with me, too. I love to write and say what I want whether anyone reads it or not. Some may say it is good therapy. If that is true, I really need to write more often.

Enough of that kind of talk, for that is not why I have decided to post once again anyway. I have been watching and reading some fascinating shows and material since I last posted here. Everyone should know from my first blog that I love astronomy in all its forms. With that said, the History Channel has a series on called "The Universe" which I recommend to anyone and everyone regardless if they like astronomy or science. The last show was about the origin of our moon, Luna. As I stated, it was absolutely fascinating as has been the entire series!

During the period from the post previously written here and watching the History Channel, I have read some interesting articles, most notably the articles from the Universe Today. As I was reading through it, I came upon a few links that I just had to read more about, of course. Then I stumbled onto one that led me to Bad Astronomy. While reading some of the post there I had some terrifying emotions going on in my mind and heart. I felt as though one part of me wanted to defend one thing and the other part of me wanted to defend the other. I thought to myself, "Self, there must be an answer to this dilemma, surely." Even as that thought went through my non-scientific mind it also occurred to me that people have been struggling with what was bothering me for no telling how long.

Okay, for the ones of you that haven't read what I was talking about on the web sites mentioned above, here is a brief explanation of what I'm referring to, summed up real short I must reiterate. On the web site, Bad Astronomy, the people there were discussing Creationists and Science with one side going against the other on which side is the right side. We have all heard the arguments before, I'm sure that at least most of us have at any rate. Now that everyone is caught-up on everything, it may be going through some people's mind why I felt so torn. For me to answer that I must explain how I feel about God, Jesus and the Bible.

First of all, don't freak out thinking that I'm bring this up only to get someone to believe the way I do, or that I have any kind of ulterior motive at all (other than bring it up in the first place). I am simply going to state how I feel/believe about God. I cannot think how this universe could’ve been made without some kind of omnipotent hand making it to be. I believe that God is that omnipotent hand, that He did actually send His Son to us to die on the cross for our sins and that the Bible was written to guide us to a path to reunite with Him after this life is over. Does that mean that I believe everything written in the Bible is the absolute truth? Not at all do I believe that one iota. The Bible was written, after all, by us humans and we all know that we as humans make mistakes. With that said, there can be no way humans whom wrote the Bible did so without making mistakes. I could go on farther about this, but I think my point is clear. Anyone is welcome to continue this conversation by making comments that I will be glad to respond to at a later date.

Just as humans wrote the Bible, so are all the journals with different theories dealing with science. We all know, or most of us know, that there have been many science journals written that address many different forms of science, from astronomy to biology and every other different kinds in-between. How many times has there been that after some amount of time someone has come around that has disproved one theory after the next? At one time humans thought that the Earth was the center of the galaxy or that the Earth was flat for that matter. At one time, we didn't know what a black hole was, and there is a lot more we don't know about them either. One may say that there is a lot of science that is fact and there is no disproving it. That is true, but isn't there also some parts of the Bible that we know to be true that cannot be disproved?

The point is, sometimes we must take a leap of faith, whether it is about science or religion. It really bothers me that people of both sides of this issue think that they have to disprove the others belief. Science, politics and religion simply do not mix well with one another and the sooner that some people stop trying to mix them the better off we all will be. We need all three for our society to function, nevertheless. That doesn't mean that we need to fight each other about them. Albert Einstein was a man of religion and science, and he even agonized over many of the things he learned from science, because he basically thought that he was disproving religion. I happen to think what he actually did was prove how much more omnipotent God really is in all of His glory.

It isn't my place to judge anyone about there belief in creation, science, religion or anything else, nor do I think anyone else should judge me in my beliefs. Sure, we can have a discussion about it, on this subject or about anything else, but it is wrong for anyone to attack another's faith simply because that isn't his or her own faith. Who knows if I'm correct in how I believe, or the person that is reading this believes' are correct? We may never know, and until I can prove my faith is the absolute correct one, or the person that is reading this can prove their faith is the correct one, we should not ever be so self important that we either force our opinions on another, or dismiss and/or attack another's opinions. When the day comes when we can learn to be that way as a whole society, we may then perhaps achieve a major form of enlightenment of some kind. That is, of course, my opinion.

My Introduction

Let me begin by saying hello to everyone that was able to find this lowly little blog, especially when there are so many millions out here in Internet land to choose from in the first place. With all the blogs that people publish everyday it is hard to decide which ones we really want to read. With that said, I want to express my thanks to anyone that does take the time out to read my blog. I encourage each of you to take a few minutes of your time to comment on what I have to say. By doing this, it will allow me better to understand what people think of my amazingly crazy thoughts (or at least some have told me). Also, by doing so, it will help me decide on what to write about next. Who knows, it may even get a discussion started, which would be really great in my opinion.

Now, let’s get to it. I really don't have anything in particular to write about today, but there are a few little things that I would like to point out. As one may have noticed by looking at the sites that I visit, it is very evident that I like science. However, it isn't just any kind of science that grabs my attention so strongly that I think that I am going to explode. No, I like (perhaps like isn't really strong enough of a word to describe my feelings) astronomy most of all. Of course, other science is interesting to me, if not in fact fascinating, but learning about the stars, planets, nebulae, and all the other "things" in outer space just totally astound me above and beyond anything else in this universe.

Okay, so now everyone knows how much of a "nerd" or "geek" I am. To be perfectly honest, I don't care any more what people think of me, unlike how I felt in my younger years. Why is it that when we get older, most of us get to the point that we don't care what others think of us as much as we once did? Wouldn't high school have been a lot more enjoyable if we didn't worry so much about what others thought? Those are questions that perhaps I will address in another blog, but for now, let's stick on this subject.

First of all, I must admit that my math skills are pretty damn good, even if I do say so myself, however I am no where near as good as a real astronomer or physicist. In fact, I don't even think that I'm even in the same building as the real scientists are, or for that matter even in the same state. Nevertheless, I love talking about astronomy, watching all the science shows on TV, and of course, sci-fi shows equally as well. One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't do better in school when I was young so that I could grow up and do what I now know makes my heart skip beats. What really bothers me about it more than anything else is that I didn't have someone to point out all the possibilities there really are for us humans to do. And on top of all that, there is the fact that when I was growing up we didn't have all the TV channels we now have that allows us to see what really is available for us to do when we grow up, if we so choose.

One may be thinking that I am blaming my shortfalls on this or that or whatnot, but I am not doing that at all. I am merely pointing out where I see my mistakes were and how much luckier children are in today's times. It doesn't matter if children want to be scientist (in whichever field), chefs, lawyers, detectives, or whatever. My point is that with the way TV has brought in all the different kinds of professions into our homes, it has opened up an even greater world to our children to choose from in deciding on which profession they want to do when they grow up. That is, of course, if our wonderful children get off the computer or game console long enough to pay attention to what the "real" world offers them.

With that said though, I saw on a news site the other day that children who spend a great deal of time interacting with Internets (doesn't President Bush think we have more than one Internet? I know he has said Internet with an "s" on it.) and computer games have a higher dexterity and hand-eye coordination, which make them prime candidates for surgeons and the likes. In this article it was said that with how surgeons are using robotics to perform surgery, the people that have exercised their brains with video games have up to a 50% better chance to be mistake free than a person that has not played video games. Now that is something for one to put in their pipe and smoke. Who would've thought that video games would one day save someone’s' life?

At any rate, this blog is a sample of what I will be writing about from time to time. This one is about my greatest love that I never was able to marry, so to speak. Other blogs will, I'm sure, be about other things, but not get too far off this subject (then again, who knows how true that is?). For example, I may next write about schools. Or I may write about how politics have affected our schools. I may even write about politics or something else entirely different. What I can promise anyone that reads my blogs are that whatever I do write about it will, or it's my hope, get people thinking. Isn't that the purpose of any article in the first place?

Well, even though it has been fun, albeit short, I need to get off here and do a few other things. I truly hope that anyone that reads this will find it was least a little entertaining, if nothing else. Perhaps this gave a small glimpse of who and what kind of person I am. On that I would like to think of myself as a kind, generous, warm and caring person with a "warped" sense of humor (at times anyway) and passionate about many different subjects. My goal here is that anyone that comes to find my blog will walk away with a little better understanding of not just who and what kind of person I am, but more importantly learn something from what I write about (sometimes anyhow), even perhaps get a laugh or two out it. Now that is my ultimate and evil plot...LOL!

Until next time, be cool and take care.
D.H.O.
